a good day : all the little things
I don't really have a picture to go with today's post, so hope you don't mind the random one above.
How was your Thursday? Are any of you still reeling from the time change, like me? A lot of the girls at work have said that they've been feeling extra tired this year. I can't decide if I think everyone is having a harder time adjusting this year or if we just forget how it affects us each year. I'm not trying to be negative, just something I noticed.
Anyway, despite sleeping through my alarm once again and almost missing my bus, I had a pretty good day. Here are some little things that made it special:
- As I stepped onto our front stoop to take Abby out for her morning business, I noticed a five dollar bill plastered to the wood. It must have fallen out of one of our neighbour's pockets during the rain. You can bet I bent right over and picked up the sopping wet bill and put it in my pocket. Since we do have a few neighbours that use that door, I'm not sure who it belongs to so I think I'll keep it. Is that bad (karma)?
- I got to see the cutest little boy at work today. Every kid I see is the cutest. #babyfeverallthetime. He was waiting with his mom and he dropped his tiny blue eater egg on the ground - or so I thought. When I picked it up and gave it back to him, he tossed it once again. And then I gave it to his mom. C'mon little one, I'm smarter than that... But you're just too cute.
- Follies at the dog park again tonight. There was a whole pack of them tonight. They drank a lot of puddle water, ate a lot of sticks and spent the majority of the time marking their territory. That pretty much sums it up!
- My hairdresser is awesome. It took a long time for me to find her and now I won't let anyone else touch my hair. She's the first person I ever let colour my hair when I got ombre last Dec. Today I just got a little trim, but it feels really good.
- After my appointment, I got to catch up with a friend of mine, who is like a sister to me at Humani-T, a cafe downtown. We kind of have a bit of a history: Our moms were best friends in high school, lost touch in college and then reconnected when they were pregnant. They are a family of three girls and then there is me and my sister and brother. We used to go camping every year for a week since we were in diapers, so they truly feel like family. I feel like I can be 100% myself around her and we can talk about all of the family stuff and we just get it, you know what I mean? It's always nice to chat with her... I enjoyed it very much. And I had a delicious pulled pork sandwich.
- Oh, and I started a new book today, Before I Go to Sleep. So far, the first ten pages are very intriguing and remind me quite a bit of the Notebook, but it's a thriller, not a romance so I know the tables will turn. I'm already thinking about what might happen, so that's a good sign. Have you read it?
So this post is a bit random, I suppose, but I like to keep track of the small, simple pleasures. It helps keep me optimistic and I truly believe that positivity breeds good things.
I hope you all have a great Friday, whether your at work, school, home or traveling. Be safe!

Happy Friday List
This picture always makes me smile. I'm hamming it up for mom while trying to get out of the pouring rain. And I just look HAPPY :)
Well folks, we made it to the weekend. I luckily had a short week thanks to my day-off on Monday. Here's a few things currently making me smile:
- These delicious garlic fingers I just devoured on my lunch break.
- I get to leave work an hour early today. That means that I'll have less than 3 hours of work left once I return!
- Excitement for a lovely St. Patrick's Day potluck party tomorrow night at a friend's place. I have to bring green food, wear green and drink green drinks. Any food suggestions? I was thinking meatballs with homemade green ketchup or a nacho dip with avocado & green peppers.
- Thinking about how close spring is... We've been getting some days as high as 10-13C. This is making me want to spend more time outside, taking the dog for longer walks and more importantly, get started on spring clothes shopping! Keep your eyes on the blog for a Spring Wish List sometime in the next couple of weeks.
- Date night with the boy. We're taking in a Rainmen NBL Playoff game tonight. It's the last game of a best of three series, so it should be pretty action-packed. I wanna see some dunks! D & I are pretty dedicated Rainmen fans; it makes me feel good to support a local professional sports team. Particularly now that they've created Canada's first professional basketball league.
That's all I've got for now. My lunch break is coming to a close, so off I go. I hope all of you have a fun weekend! Do you have any plans? Are you celebrating St. Paddy's day?

Happy List!
For a blog that's called Two Cups of Happy, I really don't write about happiness very much. I'm hesitant to share too much about my personal life on this blog. That said, I have always loved making grateful/happy lists to put things in perspective and remind myself that life's good. Everyone could use a reminder, I think.
Things that made me happy this week:
1. Playing tennis ball with Abby. She is the most hilarious dog. She will pummel herself towards the couch and bounce against the back of it. She's always good for a laugh.
2. Having lunch with a former co-worker. I hadn't seen this lady since June, so we had a lot to catch up on. Lots of laughs. LOLZZZ.
3. Getting groceries. Now before you call me a glutton, it wasn't because of the groceries themselves. D kept making me laugh and we just had fun. Ewww, right?
4. Getting in a good workout on Monday. Going to the gym never fails to lift my spirits and make me feel like I did something with my day. Oh, and this was MY JAM for the treadmill on Wednesday:
WARNING: This is NSFW. There is penis bouncing.
(That's the first time I've ever said those 2 words together....)

Another happy thing happening tonight. My friend is coming over to make me supper. Yay! Hope you enjoy your weekend. I may see you here on Sunday for a Steppin Out post, unless the rain keeps it up.

Happy Friday List + Blog Catch Up
Today I'm stealing borrowing Jen's idea from JenLovesKev and doing a Happy List. I know that it's cheesy and shmoopy, but really though, have you met me? I love this stuff.
So here are 5 things I'm happy for this week:
1. SUNSHINE. Without really noticing it, the weather has been a bit bummy around these parts. Thankfully though, today it's nothing but clear blue so we're going to take advantage of it and check out the Buskers on the waterfront with Abby.
2. Catching up with friends you haven't seen in too long. Last weekend I got the chance to spend a couple days with not one, but two, of my closest friends. We chatted about girlie things, shopped, had a patio lunch, went to a concert and went out dancing with some cool people. Last night I also met up with a friend I used to work with and we had a lovely, delicious supper at a new-er restaurant in the waterfront/Hollis St area, Baton Rouge. It was just what I needed.
3. A happy pup. It's hard not to smile when Abby is licking my face. Unless it's 6am...
4. Weekend morning laziness. There's something about waking up and not having to go anywhere... or even just having 15 minutes to lay there. It's a definite luxury.
5. My Nan & Grandad. My grandparents are the best. A couple of weekends ago Grandad showed up unannounced at the train station because he knew I'd have to walk home in the rain with my suitcase. Just this past week (and a handful of times before that) they drove us to the vet. Oh, and did I mention that Nanny never lets me leave empty handed? Love them.
What are you happy for?
Also, I kind of took an unplanned blogging break in the past couple weeks. I'm still trying to figure this whole Blogger thing out. When I'm working full-time on a computer all day, I don't feel as motivated to blog at night. I want to, but sometimes my eyes say no! I have so many things I could write about, but I need to pin-point what I want to write about. My favorite blogs are lifestyle blogs, but honestly, I don't know if my life is exciting enough to write about! Haha. We'll see.... I love doing home projects and crafts, but that can get costly. What do you like reading on my blog? Do you come for the recipes? The updates? The home stuff? I'd love to hear what you think! See you on Sunday for a Steppin Out post?
